Cotton duvet covers Hand painted batik.... Fresh colours & designs.... Sun yellow; Sky blue.... Each duvet cover is unique; one-of-a-kind Avoiding polyesters, these duvet covers of soft 100% millmade cotton have been hand painted in batik process. Here's how: First, the design is painted with hot wax onto the fabric. Each duvet cover is uniquely hand painted, so although similar no two are ever exactly the same. After painting, the fabric is immersed into the dyeing vat for either the yellow or blue colour. But the dye will not fix to the waxed areas, which therefore remain in the natural undyed colour. That is how the pattern appears. The fabric is then thoroughly washed to remove the wax, and after sun drying moves on for sewing and finishing.

Our batik duvet covers are made to three standard sizes, and have hidden buttons along the opening edge. They are sold as sets complete with pillowcases. This product comes from a batik-makers' cooperative society overlooking the ocean to the north of Chennai, South India. The co-op began years ago, and today the artisans are very skilled in this craft. It was One Village that introduced the society to the idea to make duvet covers, which involves a significant amount of batik making and on a product that has practical widespread use. Nowadays, most of the cooperative's production is duvet covers being made especially for One Village. ORDER BELOW Robust: Machine washable up to 40°C.

Because this batik is hand painted and dyed, no two pieces are ever exactly the same. This can mean slight variations to design and colour – such are the special characteristics of authentic hand made batik.
