Moymats™ are woven from the long leaves of the karagumoy: a plant that grows in abundance around the volcanic islands of central Philippines.

The long leaves of the plant are stiff and have slightly prickly edges. After gathering, the leaves are stripped, discarding the outer edges and producing regular fine widths of leaf suitable for the hand weaving.

The process has to be done whilst the leaves are still fresh from the plant, when they are more green than the eventual gold colours of the fully-dried mats.

To ensure structural longevity, it is necessary to fold the leaves at the edges and at the corners of the mat. Achieving straight sides and square corners requires the most skill by the weaver.

Easy to clean with a sponge.
After the mat has been rolled, to restore flatness reverse roll the mat and be patient allowing a few days for the mat to rearrange itself to flat.
