HANDLOOM WEAVING FROM INDIA. 100% JUTE.
UNUSUALLY, OUR JUTE RUGS HAVE JUTE WARPS AS WELL AS WEFTS. – STRONGER; BETTER.
Jute is a very durable natural fibre generally considered more environmentally-friendly than cotton because no fertilizer is ever used to help it grow strong.
Jute also needs no pesticide. It grows quickly and is actually said to benefit the fertility of the soil in which it grows.
Jute's growth consumes carbon dioxide (as much as 15 tonnes per hectare), whilst enriching the atmosphere with fresh oxygen (at the rate of 11 tonnes per hectare).
When eventually discarded, jute is naturally biodegradable.
The fibre holds colour well and is breathable. Although jute is fibre not so fine or smooth as cotton, it is much stronger.
We demonstrate here how jute can make excellent rugs!
Our rugs are «double jute»: with jute warp as well as weft.

TURN IT OVER AND USE YOUR RUG EITHER WAY UP – and be sure to vacuum both sides often to keep your rug clean. [See also cleaning notebelow.] 100% jute rug (durry), with jute warp as well as weft. Woven in India on handloom without use of power mechanized equipment (Click for:Slideshow). Yarn dyed with AZO-free dyes. Please understand that slight size and colour variations are a characteristic of hand craft.
Hand dyeing of yarns in tropical conditions often results in some unavoidable tonal variation from one batch to another.
Precise colour accuracy online also depends in part on the colour calibration of computers and monitors.

Jute has a number of advantages over some other fibres and one of them is how well the fibre receives colour dyes.
Unfortunately, that very same advantage becomes a disadvantage if ever the jute is accidentally dyed – for example if a coloured liquid has spilled on it (such as red wine; beetroot) – or if a jute rug becomes very dirty.
It is extremely difficult to remove colours that have been accidentally spilt on jute. In all probability such spillages or embedded dirt can not be cleaned off.
Use these jute rugs both ways up and vacuum both sides often to keep your rug clean.
